In the revival series episode "The Light Brigade", the subatomic bomb was the "most powerful weapon ever built by man."

It broke down the bonds that allow the formation of atoms. The implication is that this weapon was an order of magnitude more powerful than the most powerful atomic weapon. As such it is a literal planet-buster bomb able to turn an Earth sized world, in this case, Earth itself, to dust.
